A Family Day Out at the Murrurundi Campdraft and Rodeo 2024

This past Saturday, November 16, 2024, our family spent a wonderful morning at the Murrurundi Campdraft and Rodeo. The event kicked off at 9:30 AM under clear skies and a balmy 30°C, setting the perfect scene for a day filled with thrilling equestrian events and community spirit.

One of the highlights for us was the barrel racing. We had the chance to watch the novice riders show their skills and then cheer on competitors of all ages during the age-group barrel racing events. The most memorable moments, however, came from the youngest participants. Children as young as four years old—often on horses that seemed almost too tall for them—gracefully maneuvered through the barrels with the help of attentive leaders. It was heartwarming and awe-inspiring to see the bond between these young riders and their horses.

The food at the canteen was another highlight of the day. Whether you were in the mood for a quick snack or something more substantial, the offerings were delicious and satisfying. Several vendor tents dotted the grounds, adding to the festive atmosphere and providing a little something for everyone.

Despite the day’s many joys, there was one downside: the town’s cellphone towers were down, leaving attendees without phone reception or internet. While it initially felt inconvenient, the lack of connectivity encouraged us to stay present and fully enjoy the day’s events.

By 1 PM, as we made our way back home, we left with sun-kissed faces, full bellies, and cherished memories of a vibrant community gathering. Events like these remind us of the importance of supporting and celebrating local traditions. We’re already looking forward to next year!
